Scope and priority
This page states Histriphy’s standard map-usage rules. A map page, source note, license included with a download, or third-party license may add different or stricter conditions. The most specific applicable terms control for that map.
This license covers only rights Histriphy is able to grant. It does not transfer ownership of Histriphy’s library, branding, software, website design, or contributor material.
Permitted use
Subject to the map’s specific license, source conditions, and required attribution, you may:
- use individual maps in videos, animations, presentations, teaching materials, research, websites, client work, and other personal or commercial projects;
- modify, recolour, simplify, clip, merge, or adapt the GeoJSON for your own project;
- publish rendered maps, images, videos, animations, and other finished work created from the data; and
- share a working file privately with collaborators who need it for the same project and who follow the same restrictions.
Restrictions
Unless a specific map license clearly permits it, you may not:
- upload a raw Histriphy file to another map library, public repository, file-sharing service, or dataset marketplace;
- sell, sublicense, rent, or package the raw file as a standalone product;
- mirror, scrape, or redistribute all or a substantial part of the Histriphy library;
- remove required ownership, contributor, source, or license information;
- claim that Histriphy, a contributor, or a source endorses your project; or
- bypass download limits, protected storage, account controls, or technical safeguards.
Attribution
Include the credit shown on the map page or inside the downloaded package. Where no more specific credit is shown, use “Map data via Histriphy.com.” Place it in a video description, credits, source list, map legend, webpage footer, or another reasonable location that accompanies the published work.
Attribution must remain readable and must not imply sponsorship or endorsement. If a source requires additional wording or a link, include that requirement as well.
Community submissions and contributor rights
Contributors keep ownership of original submissions. They grant Histriphy the permission described in the Terms of Use so the map can be reviewed, secured, previewed, published, distributed, and preserved.
A community map remains associated with its contributor and stated sources. Downloaders must not remove that information or present the submission as their own original data.
Third-party sources and restricted data
Some maps incorporate or refer to third-party material. You are responsible for following the current terms of each applicable source. Histriphy cannot grant rights that belong to a third party.
Rights notices and removal requests
If you believe a map infringes your copyright, database right, privacy, or another legal right, send Histriphy the map address, a description of the protected material, the basis of your claim, your contact details, and evidence that you are the rights holder or authorised to act for them.
Histriphy may temporarily restrict the map while reviewing the report, ask either party for more information, correct attribution, replace the file, or remove the material. False or misleading reports are prohibited.
No warranty
Maps may contain inaccuracies, simplification, disputed boundaries, or incomplete source information. They are provided for general reference and creative use, not for navigation, legal boundaries, military planning, engineering, or other decisions requiring authoritative data.
The disclaimers and liability limits in the Terms of Use apply to downloads and map use.
